Meditation With Horses

An hour of radical presence — in the pasture, among the horses, returned to yourself.

Horses don’t ask you to perform. They don’t care what you accomplished this week, what you are worried about, or how well you hold it together. They simply are BEING, fully present, entirely honest, and when you step into that with them, something in you begins to remember how to do the same.

It is not unusual to feel, for the first time in a long time, completely and quietly yourself.

What an Hour With the Horses Looks Like

You begin outside the pasture, simply watching quietly. The horses move freely. You observe without agenda, noticing how they breathe, how they relate to one another, how they inhabit the land. Julie offers a gentle orientation: some insight into horse behavior, how these particular animals communicate, and how to move near them with both safety and respect.

Natural horsemanship expert Pat Parelli has a saying that always gets a laugh and always gets remembered:

"Nothing good comes out of the back end of a horse."  — Pat Parelli

It is good wisdom. And it is the spirit of how we approach the whole session — with honesty, good humor, and genuine care for everyone in the space, two-legged and four.

Before entering the pasture, Julie guides a standing body scan — this is a simple, grounded practice of arriving in your own body before you arrive in their space. Noticing your feet on the earth. Your breath. What you are carrying. What you might be willing to set down for an hour.

Then you enter the space.

Chairs are set near the horses. You sit — or stand if you prefer — and simply be with them.

The horses graze, move, rest, and sometimes come close. There is no script for what happens next. Julie gently guides your attention back to your breath and to the present moment when the mind wanders — which it will, because that is what minds do. But the horses have a way of calling you back. Their presence is quiet and enormous at the same time.

Sometimes a horse will approach a particular person and stay. Sometimes participants find tears arriving without knowing exactly why — not from sadness, necessarily, but from something releasing. Something that has been held a long time finally finding permission to soften.

The session closes gently, back outside the pasture, with a moment of quiet reflection. You leave the same person you arrived as — and somehow not quite.

This is designed for you…

You don’t need any experience with horses. You don’t need a meditation practice. You don’t need to be spiritual, or outdoorsy, or anything in particular. You only need a quiet willingness to show up and see what an hour of genuine presence feels like.

Meditation with Horses tends to resonate deeply with:

✦  Women who feel disconnected from themselves and are ready to come back

✦  Anyone carrying grief, anxiety, or the slow weight of a hard season

✦  People who find traditional seated meditation difficult or frustrating

✦  Those who feel most alive and most themselves in nature

✦  Small groups of friends, colleagues, or community members seeking a shared experience

✦  Retreat groups looking for something grounding and genuinely unlike anything else

✦  Anyone simply curious — you don't need a reason beyond that

No horse experience required. No meditation experience required. Just you, as you are.

This experience is an intentional time and space to be in nature and tune in to our senses and settle into presence with horses.

Being with horses in this way offers a chance to glimpse a different paradigm for experiencing life that is multidimensional and focused on sensory experiencing and connection with your heart — not locked in the patterns of the mind.

There will be chairs available, but you’re also invited to bring whatever makes you most comfortable for sitting or being on the ground during the experience.

In case of inclement weather, this will be rescheduled for another weekend.
