Privacy Policy — Held & Seen
Effective Date: August 7, 2026 Last Updated: August 7, 2026
Held & Seen ("the App," "we," "us," "our") is a contemplative reflection tool created by Via Lumen / Mountain Spring Farm. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Held & Seen, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using Held & Seen, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. What We Collect
Account information
Email address (used for login and account communication)
Password (stored securely; we never see or store it in plain text)
Reflection content
The journal entries, prompts you respond to, and reflections you write inside the App
Responses generated by "the Lantern" (our AI companion) in reply to what you write
Mood/pattern data you log (e.g., the Soul Map tracker)
Timestamps of your sessions
Payment information
If you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number.
Technical information
Basic usage data (login times, device/browser type) for security and troubleshooting
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
Provide and maintain your account and reflection history
Generate the Lantern's responses to what you write, via the Anthropic Claude API that is working with a charter created by us.
Process your subscription payment
Send you account-related communication (billing, password resets, service updates)
Improve and troubleshoot the App
We do not sell your personal information or reflection content to anyone, for any purpose.
3. How Your Reflections Are Processed by AI
When you write a reflection and ask the Lantern to respond, the text you've written is sent securely to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. This is necessary for the core feature of the App to work.
Anthropic does not use API content to train its models by default.
Anthropic retains API inputs/outputs for a limited period for safety and abuse-monitoring purposes, per their own data retention policies. See Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
The Lantern is an AI, not a licensed therapist, spiritual director, or member of clergy. It does not provide medical, psychological, or professional spiritual counsel, and nothing it generates should be treated as such. If you are in crisis or experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact a licensed professional or crisis service — see Section 8.
4. Where Your Data Is Stored
Your account and reflection data are stored using Supabase, a third-party database provider, with row-level security so that only you can access your own reflections.
Both providers are bound by their own security and privacy practices:
5. How Long We Keep Your Data
Reflection content is retained for as long as your account is active.
If you delete your account, your reflections are permanently deleted from our active database. Backups may retain data for a limited additional period before being purged.
You may request deletion of your account and data at any time by contacting support@mtnspringfarm.com.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
Access the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@mtnspringfarm.com
7. Children's Privacy
Held & Seen is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Not a Crisis Resource
Held & Seen and the Lantern are tools for reflection and spiritual formation. They are not equipped to respond to emergencies. If you are in crisis, please contact:
988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988, U.S.)
Emergency services (911, U.S.)
A licensed counselor, therapist, or pastor
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/SSL) and access controls on our database. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
