Consider the Lilies: A Bible Journaling Kit
A printable contemplative art practice exploring Matthew 6:25-34.
What might happen if, instead of simply reading these familiar words of Jesus, you slowed down long enough to notice what they awaken in you?
Consider the Lilies is a 4 page printable Bible journaling kit created for the meeting place of Scripture, contemplative prayer, and art journaling.
Linger with scripture and notice a word, question, or invitation that arises as you read and then give that inner experience a place on the page.
The printable elements of this download are intentionally designed to be altered and made your own. Add watercolor or markers. Paint pens or colored pencils. Tear an edge. Write over a piece. Layer one beneath another. There is no right way for the finished page(s) to look.
Inside This 4 page printable:
A Matthew 6:25-34 reflection page with Scripture and contemplative prompts
A page of flowers, grasses, a bird, nest, feather, and other nature-inspired pieces.
Large layering papers designed to sit behind prompts, words, Scripture fragments, and artwork.
Smaller tags, circles, banners, and word pieces for building your own layered page(s).
Space for discovering, “the word I am staying with”
A companion reflection from St. Teresa of Avila
Print the pages, gather the scissors and glue, and whatever art supplies you enjoy. You can create a page or 2 in your journal or add the printables directly into your journaling Bible. Allow the making itself to become part of your prayer.
You don’t need to know what you’re going to create. Simply bring Scripture, your attention, and a willingness to notice.
Suggestion for practice:
After printing the pdf, sit with the pages and your journal (or your journaling Bible).
Pray for an opening of your heart for divine guidance in how these words bring meaning to your own life.
Read the words of the Scripture passages. Again, pray for guidance as you allow the words to settle into your heart.
Then begin to cut elements from the pages that resonate with you. If you’re working in your journal, perhaps clipping the Scripture first and pasting this down works for you as a first step. Or paint the page first, then past down the verse. There is not one way to go about this! Then, select a prompt or 2 that calls to you and cut those out. Select 1 or more layering backgrounds to go with the prompt. Cut some of the graphics that you like and the elements for layering.
Arrange them on a page or 2 and see what develops!
If you’re working directly in a journaling BIble, explore how to add the elements to the page that feels meaningful to you.
